Stephen Myers was the Keynote Speaker at the First of August Celebration on Staten Island at the Pagoda in Clifton Park. "Eight hundred thousand British West Indian slaves 21 years ago on this day at the rising of the sun became free men," he said in his speech. "We hail it here, across the ocean as an omen of a bright day of emancipation for ourselves also..." Myers was the Underground Railroad Station Master for Albany.
